One Of The Family
It is very common to see a much loved pet sitting on the dashboard of a parked motorhome or peering out a window of a travel trailer. These companions bring comfort and love to their owners while traveling on the road. RVing wouldn’t be the same without them.
Most RV parks and resorts welcome pets with some restrictions. Most fulltime RVer’s have at least one pet traveling with them. Usually pet owners are grouped in one area of the park. This helps keep the annoyance of a barking or whining dog to a minimum for non pet owners.
Rules For Your Pets
The rules for pet behavior are almost universal. You can expect to be required to keep your pet on a short leash whenever the pet is outside the rv. Pets should always be accompanied by their master when outside.
A lot of parks have areas where the pet can be “walked” although a well behaved animal on a leash with it’s master can go just about anywhere.
Pets are not allowed in the clubhouse or other indoor facilities in most parks. Even if you enjoy feeding Fluffy off your plate at home, most other campers won’t share the same enthusiasm at a park barbecue or pot luck.
Always pick up waste after your pet and dispose of it properly in the containers provided.
If the park has a swimming pool or swim beach, Fluffy probably won’t be allowed to swim with you.
A Pet Deposit Required
Many parks charge a fee for pets. This is usually nominal but be expected to ante up a bit more for your companion. Just in case of damage or accidents.
Many rv’ers travel with pets and would not ever consider anything else. For these folks, the rules and restrictions are more than worth the companionship and love they receive from their pets.
